How to Create a Good Internship Resume

Just like any other resume an internship resume should also start with your name and contact information. After that, a clear and attractive resume objective should be stated. The objectives can be very brief and simple unlike those indicated in a career resume. When it comes to the body of your resume, i.e., your education, accolades, experience, etc you must first decide whether to list it in a chronological or a functional format. Education

Start with education you are currently pursuing and work your way backwards chronologically. Don’t forget to include your major, your degree and the date you expect to receive your graduation. Also include your aggregate GPA obtained so far.

Honors and Achievements

Plot a separate column for honors and achievements and list your academic honors and awards received as well as concurrent activities in your internship resume. Do not add any details on your volunteer works in this section!

Experience

Here comes the most important part of your resume - the experience section. Since this section makes up the essence of your resume you need to put in a lot of effort to craft this section to perfection. This is where you can add the details like your volunteer works, work history (if any), extra activities, and/or any special groups or project work you participated in.

Skills

The next section that cannot be omitted at any cost is the skills section. List all your skills a company can benefit from. Here you can include your organizational skills, leadership skills, communication skills, expertise in a particular area, computer or software skills and fluency in a foreign language.

Interests

It is not a bad idea to include some of your interests in your  resume. After all, you are still in your college and you must be having a lot of other things to do apart from getting engaged in studies and projects. Your interests will reflect what type of person you are. Yet, please note that interests covered in your professional resume must not be like watching TV or playing video games. You must be able to talk passionately about your interests when asked by your interviewer. This will help you get selected.

References

References are very important for writing an internship resume. You can provide up to three references to make your resume short and sweet. You can add references from your high school teachers, current professors, employers or supervisors from your previous internship. You must always include their names, title or designation, places of employment, addresses and telephone numbers.

Finally, you can submit a copy of your transcripts, mark sheets or grade cards.  Grade cards are not necessary but you can bring along a copy when invited for an interview.
