Useful spot on differences between CVs and resumes

Have you ever thought of the difference between a resume and a CV? If you are still baffled on how to identify a curriculum vitae from a resume, then let us discuss about it.

Actually, a CV and resume are actually just the same. People may opt to call a document to be a CV simply for a narrower aspect of saying it. While a resume may be a formal term, it does not have any defining factors that separate it from normal curriculum vitae. So what are the principles behind writing a good resume? Let us take a look at the list of necessary characteristics of your resume that you need to compose.

It is a really challenging world to compete with so many other people just to get the same job that you are dreaming of. However, if you can effectively write a CVs, then you can increase your chances in landing on a job. The following factors should be included in your good resume:

General profile details

This will include your name, address and some contact information like e-mail and phone number.

Objective

This is the part where you will present your main goal about looking for the opportunity that you are applying for.

Work Experience

You also need to define your previous work experiences as well as the tasks that you have previously undertaken in the company.

Education Background

Enumerate your undergraduate or masters degrees and include all your participation in extra curricular activities. It will help if you will present some leadership positions that you have attended to in an organization.

A CV must not only provide everything about you but also demands that you appreciate the time and effort that the employer has given you. Put a little thank you note in your cover letter in the closing remarks. We can help you compose a good curriculum vitae. Please make sure that you visit our Samples page today.

Crafting Your Curriculum Vitae

Today we are going to discuss the ins and outs of a curriculum vitae writing – more commonly known as a CV. Meaning, we are going to discuss what it is, especially as it compares to a resume; when it is appropriate to include one; and how, precisely, to write one.

First, let’s discuss the ways in which a curriculum vitae and a resume are different. Primarily, the difference between a CV and a resume pertain to the length, the content, and the purpose of each document. Your resume should be one of two pages long. It is just an overview of your skills, your experience, and your education. Whether you are writing a chronological resume or a different type, your main goal is to be as concise and precise as possible. You do not want your potential employer to spend too much time reading it – maybe because he or she will not. At that stage, employers likely have at least hundreds of other applicants to get through, they go quickly. As such, you need to catch their attention and pique their interest in a short span of words and space.

However, your curriculum vitae writing can – and should – be altogether longer. Whereas a resume should never be longer than two pages, your CV can. This gives you the opportunity to present a more detailed summary of your past work experience, your education, and any special abilities. You can also include any teaching experience and research experience you have had. Furthermore, you can highlight any publications or presentations in which your work has been, along with any awards, honors, affiliations, or a number of other facts.

Even more important than CV format is knowing when, precisely, you need to use one. Within the United States, it is generally used by applicants who are interested in international positions, academic and education positions, or research and scientific positions. It is also used when you apply for fellowships and grants. Different positions may include a different CV format.

Keep in mind that employers in Europe, Asia, and Africa will actually be interested in your personal information – the kind that you would probably never include if you were applying for a similar position in the United States. That includes your date of birth, your place of birth, and your nationality. When actually true, such CV tips could actually mean the difference between getting a position and getting passed over.

Otherwise, your curriculum vitae writing will generally contain similar elements no matter where you are applying. The tradition CV format includes, in this order: your name, your contact information, your educational background and your skills and experience. You can also include other elements, such as any experience you have had researching or teaching, any publications, grants, fellowships, professional associations, licenses, awards, or other pertinent information which applies to your desired position. Here, you are free to detail all of your accomplishments. Anything that you think might make you a better candidate can go here. For example, if you are applying somewhere as an intern and you were a candy striper or a hospital volunteer when you were younger, be sure to mention it!

Writing a CV is an action which can better be done if you can visibly reflect well.

Most people fall short to writing a CV because they fall short to visualize and do things in person. However, the ability to reflect and write plainly is just the beginning to write good curriculum vitae. The first thing to do is to make a decision that you want to write a curriculum vitae. A CV must not necessarily be written because you have been asked to do it. Remember that it is common today to prepare a CV and keep while going about in search of a job.

Writing a CV

Once you have decided to write curriculum vitae and you have identified what to include in your curriculum vitae, come right out and begin writing a CV. First, you must know what you want to use your curriculum vitae to achieve. Use a draft and make an outline of every major skill. These should be listed in a coherent order.

Make the opening of your curriculum vitae direct and personal. The opening of your curriculum vitae is all about your personal information. It is easy to write this with the use of a curriculum vitae template or a CV example. Make sure that you have information for every section of your curriculum vitae. The necessary sections of a CV include the curriculum vitae heading, objective statement, education, experience and references.

Make the organization of your curriculum vitae clear and straight to the point. This can best be done by using short paragraphs and short sentence. Steer clear of wordiness or long winded sentences. Keep in mind that a CV is a snappy representation of what you are. Details of a CV can better be explained when you meet an employer face-to-face or through a CV cover letter.

Use a personal voice to make your curriculum vitae express and commanding. What you should know when writing to people is that they tend to have an affirmative outlook on any piece of information you send to them and when you treat them in a manner that they anticipate. When you write your curriculum vitae in a manner that you will normally talk, it adds more certainty to what you want to bring out. Therefore, it will do you well to write with a dynamic voice. Grand Resume offers more CV tips for achieving this. Use specific and concrete language. Steer clear of words and phrases that may be too mechanical for the common employer. as an alternative, verify on the suitable meaning of every word and make sure that this is correctly put into use.

Make your curriculum vitae look perfect. In a CV, you are marketing yourself. Therefore, there should be no spelling errors. Remember that errors may force the reader to question how much concern and thought you can put in in the organization.

Writing a CV can equally be done through the help of a curriculum vitae writing service. It should be noted that most job applicants lack the time to begin and complete a good curriculum vitae. If you intend to use a curriculum vitae writing service to write your CV, always believe in a trustworthy curriculum vitae writing site such as Grand Resume for value.

Even for those professionals who are seeking alternative careers or shifting industries, they sometimes fail to provide a good CV to their prospect employers.

Here are the following characteristics of a CV that we can consider good and effective:

A good CV is something that targets a specific goal. There should be a clear objective of the applicant as to why he is currently looking for employment in the intended company.

A good CV should be simple but detailed. It is a must that your CV is concise.

Sometimes, applicants do not make it because they submit lengthy resumes and CV files. A good CV is short and compact. As a suggestion, try to limit your CV pages in two.

For those jobs that are related to designs and the arts, you may need to integrate some of your presentation skills to make your CV more attractive.

A good CV is of course free form spelling and accuracy errors.

A good CV should also be submitted together with a good cover letter.

Writing a good CV is not as difficult as it may seem. All you need to have is the motivation to get hired and follow the simple steps in effective Curriculum Vitae writing. This time, the internet can be used to look for reference materials for your guidance. So if you want to write a good CV, simply follow the steps above to achieve a professional resume.

Marketing Resumes Made Easy

Your humble author recently had the opportunity to write a marketing resume for a friend. Finding a job in the marketing industry or even finding something that simply involves marketing can be very lucrative, but you have to sell yourself just as much as you intend to sell the products or services required by the company for whom you want to work.

As clearly implied by the term itself, a marketing resume is specifically tailored to a company or position which will require you to promote sales. Sales managers, restaurant workers, even regional make up artists who work at the Chanel counter or the MAC counter in a high end department store have all got to know how to push their products. That is the essence of marketing and that is why it is so important to make yourself and your skills shine when you are writing up your resume, CV, and cover letter for a position geared towards marketing.

You may be thinking that there are few ways to tailor your marketing resume but that is not the case at all. Even if you not have had a job specifically geared towards marketing, then thinking about this: have you had a job in the customer service industry? Have you had a job wherein you have had lots of interaction with the customers? If so, then you need to play that up on your resume. Now, naturally, you can only do so much, since it can only be one to two pages and the shorter the better. However, in providing the details you are allowed to provide about the jobs you have held such far, you are afforded with the opportunity to sell yourself well.

Then, of course, you will have plenty of opportunity to add to that when you write up a marketing driven CV, or curriculum vitae. Here, you will be able to include more information than you can put on your resume. You can thoroughly detail all of your experience, all of your skills, and all of your qualifications. Tailor it specifically towards marketing, towards your ability to deal with customers, and towards your ability to drive sales, put together promotions, and things of that nature.

This is going to tie in to your cover letter as well. It needs to be tailored to the job to which you are applying, it should not be a blanket letter that you send out to every single job and position. In this way, you can tailor it as well, which can be extremely beneficial. What you want to do is take the time to tie in the skills you have garnered throughout your job experience and then show how you can bring those skills to the position to which you are applying.

As you can plainly see, when it comes to a marketing resume, you need more than just that. Your resume, your curriculum vitae, and your cover letter all need to be geared towards the marketing industry. By doing that, you can make the whole process of job hunting go much more successfully.

How to Make Job Hunting Easy and Successful

Job hunting is harder right now than it has ever been. If you look at the statistics, they say one thing. They insist that the unemployment rates are down, at least in places like the United States and in parts of Europe. That is a very nice theory. In practice, however, it does not quite hold true. In fact, job seekers are having a difficult time all over the world. Personally, one need only look at the comments received on this blog to realize that; at that point, sympathy and empathy are immediate reactions. It is a competitive jungle out there right now — but if you keep reading, you might find things a bit easier.

The first key to job hunting successfully is to know what you want. You need to have some goal in mind. Naturally, for most of us, that goal is to be employed, but in order to drive yourself and to be properly motivated, you have to be just a little bit more specific than that. For instance, would you be happy with a minimum wage job at a fast food restaurant? There is nothing wrong with that by any means — a job like that can help you get some kind of experience and it is typically ideal for high school students as well as students in their first or second year of undergraduate school. However, many of us simply want more than that. We want a job somewhere within the bounds of our chosen field of study.

That is where job hunting can get a little bit more intense. If you want a job that can take you places, a job that offers room for advancement and worthwhile opportunities, then you have to have a good resume. That is not at all negotiable. It is a necessity these days. The job market is so intensely competitive that you have got to have the best possible resume you can build. Now, where some of us run into trouble is the fact that we do not have a lot of work experience. Many of you have probably faced this conundrum: a hiring manager tells you that you do not have enough work experience to work with their particular company — but you cannot get experience if no one will hire you. Tailoring your resume, making it look good, can go a long way towards helping you get over that hump.

You also need to supplement your resume with a well written CV. That is an abbreviation for curriculum vitae, and what that does is allow you to be more detailed and more specific than your resume allows. Your CV can be longer and more thorough, you can really chronicle your skills, attributes, and qualifications.

The last step in successful job hunting involves including a cover letter with each and every resume you send out to potential employers. You need to specifically tailor each cover letter to the position for which you are applying, and tie it into the skills you have to illustrate how you can bring your experience to the position.

CV writers are those people who are already experts in managing the details in a CV or curriculum vitae. Basically, anyone can be a CV writer as long as you know how to input the important information and that you are willing to get a decent job. Now, let us talk about the major components of a resume that will help you land in a good job opportunity.

Generally, there are only a few things that you should realize in a CV. This means that you can easily narrow down list of skills that you want to incorporate to your profile. A CV is a piece of paper that provides the following:

Your Life and history

Your Personal Job and work experiences

Your Schooling Information

Your achievements in life

Your abilities and competencies

Now, as a CV writer, it must be a real deal in learning how to write specific details relating to these parts. In a page, you can put all the details about you without having to consider multiple page writing. This is attainable only if you are able to compress your information and that you can select only the necessary data about your life. You need not write a long CV because no hiring personnel are really paying attention to lengthy resumes. So you only need to write important details about you in a compact manner.

Some CV writers would want to put a cover letter in their resume. This is not unusual because you too can write a cover letter to improve your presentation of details to the employer. If a CV is a compressed file about you, the cover letter can be more personal in terms of presenting your profile.

We can guide you to become a good CV writer. Please read the remaining entries in our Archives for more references and guide materials.

Many people rely on their resumes to get a good leading job. In fact, a resume is regarded as an advertising medium to attract employers to hire an individual. That is why a CV value notion is really important for you to understand. What is a CV? It is a smaller name for Curriculum Vitae. Basically, a CV is just a well written resume. It is more comprehensive and more detailed compared to an ordinary resume.

A CV value lies mainly on how the details are presented. Therefore, you need to learn how to write a good resume and consider the format in writing such a paper file. This will then increase the value of your document and may then lead to you being hired. Essentially, the contents will be the next thing to consider in a CV value.

A CV value based on contents simply defines that you must include all your credentials and competencies in a very compact manner. This will enhance your chances of being hired because you can efficiently present your qualifications in very short segments which hiring personnel prefer.

Lastly, you may consider integrating a cover letter if you want to increase your CV value. It is like a formal note to your potential employer and in a form of a letter. You can include this page in front of your CV. The same profiles must be included in the cover letter as reflected in your overall resume.

We can increase your CV value if you will place an order with us. Let our professional writers take care of your worries today.

What Will Examples of Good Cover Letters Contain?

You absolutely cannot underestimate the advantages of reading examples of good cover letters. The job market today is such that you simply cannot afford not to do your very best, and that means submitting a resume, a cover letter, and a curriculum vitae when you apply for a job.

Find examples of cover letter at grandresume.com

This has not always been true, of course. Time was, submitting a resume was quite sufficient. Right now, however, the job market — in all industries — is more competitive than it has ever been before. Finding a job can be something of a cutthroat endeavor. You have to be the best, or you might as well be ready to move on right now. If you are not willing to be the best or to do your best, then you are going to ultimately have to settle for a job that does not fulfill you — or else deal with being unemployed.

Since most of us are unfamiliar with writing a cover letter, you can easily see the importance of studying up on examples of good cover letters. Thus, we are going to take a look at some of the do’s and don’ts of writing a cover letter. In its way, it is just as specialized and specific as your resume and your curriculum vitae.

Good cover letter examples will make it clear that you need to address a specific and named person when you are writing your letter. However, the salutation should be proper, appropriate, and inoffensive. Thus, do not address it to any “gentlemen” or any “ladies.” That is definitely not necessary. Your first paragraph is very important. Do not make it boring. If you do, then you are doomed from the start, because the hiring manager is not going to be at all interested in what you have to say. You have to grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning, and that means making sure that he or she knows straight away that you are the best person for the job.

You need to stay away from cliches and from stating the obvious. A good way to tell examples of good cover letters from bad ones lies in the fact that the bad ones are chock full of cliches and meaningless blather. For instance, you do not need to mention that your resume is enclosed. The employer knows that.

You also need to understand that most of the burden here lies on you. The only thing the hiring manager is responsible for is reading what you write — and only then if it is interesting and relevant. For instance, you cannot leave it up to a potential employer to get in contact with you. It is up to you to ask for an interview, it is up to you to get in contact with the employer after you have sent your resume, cover letter, and curriculum vitae.

The best examples of good cover letters will be simple and to the point. This is unquestionably the most important piece of cover letter advice that you will ever receive. Your letter should be grammatically correct. The sentence structure should be concise. There should not be any typos. The content needs to be right to the point, especially in terms of just why you are right for the job and what you hope to bring to it.
