Cover letters are a must if you want your resume to be seriously considered. The goal of a resume cover letter is to introduce you to a potential employer while also giving a brief overview of the professional resume that accompanies it. You should include your professional resume behind your resume cover letter. As mentioned in our resume letter example, if you wish to include transcripts or recommendation letters, you would put those behind the resume itself. Depending on the position, you may wish to not include a recommendation letter; however, if you do opt for that, don’t overwhelm the interviewer with multiple recommendations.

Your most current one should suffice and if the potential employer wishes to see more, you can forward your other documents at that time. Don’t forget to sign the letter!

Finally, remember to have someone proofread the letter and resume to catch any typos you might have missed and to ensure it reads well. a. This is where you put the name of the actual person to whom the letter is addressed.
b. Your present role (if student) or job (if professional).
c. Your current position.
d. List of your skills, experiences, accomplishments, et cetera, as they apply to the position.

f. The things you can bring to the position; list between one and three.
g. Name of the company.

The best piece of cover letter advice you will ever receive that does not apply to content involves the length.  As you well know, everything in this area is strict: resumes should not be longer than two pages, your CV can be over than two pages but should not be much longer than three or four.  An effective cover letter should be able to say why you are the best person for the job in one page – or less.
