The numbers don’t lie: America is seeing unemployment numbers that are closer to those during the Depression. It’s unsettling and more than a little frightening to most families. Currently, the hit to American jobs is near 4.5 million. With news such as this, are there any companies at all that are increasing their employee rosters?

Pharmacists, especially for drug store chains such as Walgreens and Wal Mart, are being actively sought too.
The Mortgage Industry
Banks, lenders such as First Horizon, GMAC and even Countrywide are in pursuit of workers who can process loan applications, work in the collections departments and many other tasks associated with the increase in mortgage applications. Processors generally receive on the job training and loan officers are required to be licensed within their states.
Banking Industry
As more banks merge, the need for experienced IT personnel is growing. Wachovia, Bank of America and smaller banks are all hiring personnel to make the merges and transitions seamless. Computer systems, accounts, loans and customer bases must all be combined with no interruption to customer service and other banking procedures.
Engineers
In Pascagoula, MS, Northrop Grumman Ship Systems is still hiring engineers. In fact, companies across the country are hiring engineers. Mississippi State University, home to one of the country’s leading engineering programs, reports receiving requests for the names of the brightest up and coming engineers as employment offers are being made well before students graduate.
Home Health Care
As more families report elderly parents moving into their households, the need for outside help in the form of sitters and other home health personnel is growing rapidly. With fewer insurance companies footing the bill for traditional services, many siblings are pooling resources to pay for those who can check on their elderly loved ones during the day, run errands and provide meals.
